CLINICAL SUPERVISION & PARENT CONSULTATIONS
Art Therapists
Art therapists provide a form of therapy that uses the art making process as its main medium of communication, often along with thoughtful discussion about the images created, which is aided by the therapist's curiosity and keeping the goals and best interests of the client in mind at all times. The art therapy profession lends itself well to adapting to the needs of the client, and its processes can take many shapes and forms.
My experience has led to the development of my private practice, where I offer both clinical supervision for practising professionals, and consultations for parents who want to explore and therapeutically respond to the emotional, psychological, developmental and behavioural needs of their children.
Parent Consultations
Parent consultations are an opportunity to look in depth at the relationship and experience of your child in the context of family, culture, transgenerational events and circumstances, as well as health, schooling, home life and many other factors. Parent consultations can help to bring about adjustments at home and school implemented by parents and staff in education settings, which can enable positive changes for your child without the need, necessarily, for engaging in therapy.
Parent consultations might be helpful if you are:
- thinking about therapy for your child or family
- are on a waiting list for therapy for your child or family
- would like to think about ways in which your child can be better supported at home and in school
- looking for a neutral space within which to think about your child
Children and young people do not need to attend these sessions to benefit from them. Depending upon the level of complexity, we may need only a few sessions to collaboratively formulate easy to implement therapeutic approaches.
My fee is £60 for one hour.
Clinical Supervision
I offer clinical supervision in person in north Bristol and on Zoom locally, nationally and internationally for art therapists and other professionals using art making in a therapeutic context. I have worked in a variety of settings and my practice has developed into two main areas of experience:
DISPLACEMENT
I have been working in a variety of temporary and liminal settings for asylum seekers and those who support them through the work of Art Refuge. Underpinned by psychodynamic thinking, this group work is trauma informed using a psychosocial approach to bolster resilience in challenging circumstances and contexts.
EDUCATION SETTINGS
Since 2012, I have been providing schools-based psychodynamic art therapy for pupils in primary and secondary schools, mainstream and alternative provisions. Since 2017, I have also been providing parent consultations, trauma informed supervision in specialist schools, and capacity building for staff in education settings in order to add to support packages for complex pupils.
My fee is £60 for one hour.
